Example 1: Shown is Part# 17117573781.This part is originally made by Modine for BMW.You can see the M logo as well as the BMW logo on the Genuine tank and you can see where Modine removed the trademarked logo when they sold the part outside of the dealer network.The part is the same part and comes from the same manufacture that made the part for BMW, but has any trademarked logos removed. Original Equipment Manufacture, This would be the original manufacture of a part that was used by BMW when the car was built.Since Bosch made the alternator for the BMW E38 7Series, Bosch is the OEM for the alternator.

While the 3 examples show the common situation found with OEM parts, There are cases where the OEM manufacture just leaves off the information as opposed to rubbing the information off, This is more common on a part where the information is printed as opposed to being actually cast into the material.There are also cases where a manufacture does not sell their parts publicly, but rather to a distribution company,A good example of this would be OEM Flex disc made by SGF, SGF is not set up to sell in a retail environment, So they sell their products to companies like Febi Bilstein who then packages and supports the part on the retail market, This is why a OEM flex disc that is packaged in a Febi Bilstein box, Will be stamped with SGF on the actual part since SGF is the OEM manufacture for the flex disc.Common trade names of companies that you will see doing this are Febi Bilstein,Vemo,CoolXpert & BBR to mention a few.
